Sure Donald Cerrone would like to be a champion some day, but for now, fighting often, improving and making money are on the top of his list. Right after his dominant win over Denis Siver on Saturday night, Cerrone said he wants to keep fighting.
When asked if he wanted to sit out and wait for a title shot at 155 pounds, Cerrone cut off the question.
"No, I want to fight. I want to fight," Cerrone said. "I want to keep on fighting. I don't want to sit and wait."
In less than two days, it looks like the UFC has granted him his wish. Heavy.com reports that Cerrone and Nate Diaz have a verbal agreement to fight at UFC 141 in Las Vegas on Dec. 30.
[Related: St. Pierre, Nick Diaz anxious for superfight]
Cerrone is ranked No. 13 in the USA Today/Bloody Elbow lightweight top 25. He's 4-0 this year and earned bonuses in three of those fights.
On Saturday, he got $75,000 for Submission of the Night. At UFC on Versus 5, he got $65,000 for Knockout of the Night. He banked $75K at UFC 126. That's $215,000 in bonuses alone in 2011.
He's a longshot for Fighter of the Year, but if he goes 5-0 including a win over Nate Diaz, he's definitely in the running.
The Cerrone-Diaz matchup should be dynamite. Both fighters are long. Cerrone loves to kick which should be interesting since Diaz employs a high-volume style with his hands.

LAS VEGAS - The new Donald Cerrone is one scary individual.
The former WEC star continued his assault on the UFC lightweight division by destroying a previously hot Denis Siver in less than three minutes.
Cerrone (17-3, 4-0 UFC) rocked Siver on the feet several times before finishing him with a rear-naked at the 2:25 mark of the first round in the second fight on the UFC 137 Spike broadcast.
[Related: UFC 137: Penn, 'Cro Cop' set to retire after losses]
Cerrone's now won six straight fights and last two have come via brutal knockout. The list of title contenders is long at 155 pounds, but Cerrone has certainly earned himself a shot at one of the guys in the top six.
Both fighters came out throwing, but it was Cerrone who was able to deal with getting hit. He fired back hard shots and when he landed a huge left kick to the head, it was the beginning of the end for the Russian fighting out of Germany. Siver's legs were lost. He wobbled for several seconds before grabbing a Cerrone leg and slowing the down the fight along the cage.
The fighters separated and Cerrone landed another right straight down the pipe. Siver went down to his knees where Cerrone jumped on his back and quickly got his hooks in. Seconds later, he slapped on the rear-naked choke and Siver tapped almost immediately.
"Donald hits very hard. Both shots got me pretty wobbled and I was unable to collect myself after the second one. That made it very easy for him to sink in the submission and there was nothing I could do."
Cerrone loves to fight so he may not wait until one of the big boys is free to fight. He said before and after the fight, he'd like another bout before the end of 2011. He's 4-0 this year.
"There were a couple of things I should have done differently, but I'll work on it," said the extremely self-critical Cerrone. "I want to fight one more time this year - bring it on. I don't want to wait."
Siver (19-8, 8-5 UFC) had won four straight coming in.

Carlos Condit has been through a roller coaster while preparing UFC 137. He started out by preparing for a bout with B.J. Penn. After Nick Diaz's no-show for multiple press obligations, Condit was given the title shot. Today, he found out Georges St. Pierre was injured, and that Condit's title shot would have to wait until December or January.
Still, Condit told Cagewriter that he's not angry about the turn of events.
"It's a letdown, but it's the nature of the sport. I'm going to stay positive, keep training, and be even better when the fight comes."
He said taking another fight in the meantime just doesn't make sense.
"Nothing's been offered, and me and my manager discussed it, and taking another fight doesn't make sense on a lot of levels. As far as my career goes, it doesn't make sense, from a money standpoint, it doesn't make sense."
GSP's injury will not keep him out of training for too long, so Condit will wait for GSP and the title shot.
"In this situation, Georges isn't out six or eight months or anything like that. He's sprained his knee. It's going to be a short recovery, and hopefully we'll be able to get this thing done, and get in the cage by the end of the year, or early next year at the latest."
Both Jake Ellenberger and Josh Koscheck hinted that they would be ready to take the fight, but Condit is focused on the belt.
"I have the opportunity to fight for the title, and I have my heart set on Georges. When and if I beat Georges, I'll take on Ellenberger. I'll give him a rematch. I'll fight anyone, but right now, I have my heart set on Georges."
In the meantime, Condit will not change his training routine.
"My job is to get up every day and go to the gym and train, and improve my skills, and improve myself as a fighter. That's what I'm going to do tomorrow. I'll be able to eat a little bit more, and enjoy not so strict of a diet, but that's about the only difference. "
What will that cheat food be?
"Pizza or enchiladas," Condit said with a laugh.

There is a thief in Glendale, Ariz., who should consider himself quite lucky. He robbed UFC lightweight contender Benson Henderson's home and managed to make it out before "Smooth" returned home.
Henderson tweeted that his place was rummaged through. The thief took many of his DVDs and his XBox 360, but left behind Henderson's new 44-inch television. Henderson was shaken up at first, but then thankful that the damage wasn't worse.
Shouldn't the thief be the one who is thankful? Breaking into anyone's home is a bad idea, but it's an especially bad idea to break into the home of a man who is paid to beat people up, and who has a degree in criminology. The thief should be truly appreciative that Henderson did not catch him in the act.
Henderson is currently training to fight Clay Guida on the UFC on Fox card in November. Come to think of it, what was Guida doing at the time of the crime?

LAS VEGAS - Hands be damned. Bart Palaszewski thought he may have broken his hands, but when he had the chance to pound out Tyson Griffin, he went for broke.
Palaszewski scored a vicious knockout of Griffin at the 2:45 mark of the first round at the Mandalay Bay Events Center. The former WEC fighter was a plus-260 underdog.
Griffin is now 1-1 back down at featherweight. The 28-year-old climb near the top of the mountain at lightweight with a close loss to Sean Sherk at UFC 90. Since then, his career has been derailed by weight issues, injuries and bad knockouts. Tonight, we witnessed another low.
[Related: UFC 137: Penn, 'Cro Cop' set to retire after losses]
Griffin and Palaszewski circled for the first few minutes. Palaszewski was effective with the jab and few front kicks. Griffin tried to counter with the overhand right.
Palaszewski (36-14) landed a left hook that changed the fight with 2:30 left and backed it up with another left that sent Griffin bouncing to his knees. Griffin bounced up and Palaszewski hopped on him. He unloaded 18 straight punches. Several right hands softened him up before another right got Griffin to drop his hands. Palaszewski landed a three-punch combos that included two hard lefts. Griffin went down and was out of it.
Griffin (15-6, 8-6 UFC) has now lost 4-of-5. He returned to featherweight with a fight at UFC on Versus 5. He won a tight fight that night against Manny Gamburyan. He didn't do himself any favors for this one by missing weight by four pounds yesterday. He was fined 25 percent of his purse.
The Palaszewski knockout is the only candidate right now for the Knockout of the Night bonus. At most of the previous UFC pay-per-views, the awards have been $75,000. This was Palaszewski's first win in the UFC. Fighting for Zuffa's smaller promotion, he posted a 4-3 record with the WEC.

UFC Hall-of-Famer Chuck Liddell continues his retirement that does not involve starting a vineyard tonight on CBS. He'll play the difficult role of "mixed martial artist" on the episode that airs at 10 p.m. ET. Pro Elite provided both the cage for the episode and this behind-the-scenes shot.
As you can see, this role will truly stretch his acting chops. Tonight's episode will be a about "a wealthy restaurant owner is murdered and the investigation leads McGarrett to take part in a charity mixed martial arts fight."
According to IMDB, Liddell has several acting credits to his name, including spots on "Criminal Minds," "Blade: The Series," and "How High," where he played a tough guy. Apparently, he also served as a transportation coordinator for "Hollywood's Magical Island: Catalina" in 2003.

The UFC allowed its biggest pay-per-view star Brock Lesnar to appear in the latest WWE video game. The Lesnar open in the game is pretty cool and probably has wrestling fans wishing this were true:
"Now after an extended absence ... he's back! And this time, the gloves are off. He's bigger, badder and better than ever before."
The real Lesnar then emerges. We don't get much of a look, but Lesnar does look noticably thinner in the face and a little smaller across the shoulders. After multiples battles with diverticulitis and adjusting to a new diet, it's hard to imagine Lesnar carrying 285-300 pounds like he used to.

This video is worth the 1:05 it will take you to watch. In fact, it's worth the 5:25 it will take you to watch it five times in a row, because you will. You will want to watch UFC fighters and once opponents Pat Barry and Mirko "Cro Cop" Filipovic sing along to the Mamas and the Papas classic "California Dreaming."
The two fought at UFC 115, but Barry never kept his fandom of Filipovic a secret. That may explain why he's grinning like a jack o'lantern throughout the video. What impressed me most is that Cro Cop knew the verses to the song. Everyone knows the chorus, but the verses? Wow. English is his second language, but he still knew about stopping in the church they passed along the way.
Indeed, it was California dreaming on such a winter's day.

Nick Diaz knows he has a big challenge in front of him on Saturday night at UFC 137. In fact, he believes it's a tougher fight than the one he's was originally scheduled for against Georges St-Pierre.
"I wouldn't have picked this fight for sure," Penn told HDNet's Inside MMA. "I think he'll probably try to slip the jab and throw the overhand right (then) make a body lock or (go for a) single leg takedown. Maybe push me against the fence."
Diaz knows he could ward off the Penn attack with a safety-first mentality, but that's not in his DNA.
"I'm going to have to deal with a lot of that stuff. It's B.J. Penn so it's a real difficult fight especially for somebody like me who's going to go and try to fight, and not try to hold him and win rounds," said Diaz.
Diaz truly believes Penn is a tougher fight than the UFC welterweight champ would've presented, but you can hear he's still wants thate on an eventual GSP tilt.
"If I lose to B.J. Penn, he's either going to take me out with a right hand or he's going to go on top in some way and end in some position. He'll probably want to put a mount, take the back and put a choke. You know, finish the fight," Diaz said.
"Georges would look to just do enough to win the fight. Every fight that he does (is like that). I doubt that would've worked out with me the same way it does with a lot of the other fighters. I have the tool and what it takes to make something other than that happen in there."
Even though it's a three-rounder on Saturday, Diaz believes his big advantage may be in the cardio department. Penn has had stamina issues int he past at 170 pounds.

Starting with its Feb. 4 card, the UFC is introducing another cool innovation with fight cards shown in 3D in movie theatres around the country. The promotion is partnering with Cinedigm Digital Cinema to bring events to the big screen. There will be four 3D shows per year.
"By partnering with Cinedigm, we're taking the UFC viewing experience to a whole new level. For the first time ever, fight fans can watch a UFC Pay-Per-View card in 3D at theaters across the country. We want UFC fans to have the best viewing experience possible and now they get a chance to experience major UFC Pay-Per-Views in 3D," said UFC president Dana White.
In the past, Cinedigm has produced 3D shows and sporting events like the Foo Fighters, FIFA World Cup, BCS Championship and the Dave Matthews Band.

Showtime is facing a major decision about its future with Strikeforce. Now it has to make the decision without the guy who's steered the ship since 2003. Hershman left his position as executive vice president and general manager for sports and event programming with Showtime for the president's gig with HBO Sports.
What does that mean for the future of mixed martial arts at Showtime? It seems like Strikeforce is on its last legs. Who will take Hershman's position and will they have an interest in the MMA business if it's not the UFC? Yahoo! Sports' lead MMA writer Kevin Iole gives us the lowdown on what the future holds for Showtime, and HBO.
Iole also gave us his take on what happens on the boxing side with Hershman at HBO.

Chael Sonnen called the champ out in front 16,000-plus in Houston and millions more watching on pay-per-view. He's insulted his homeland, his character and even his wife. So why isn't Anderson Silva-Sonnen II booked?
Listening to his manager Ed Soares, Camp Silva is either playing minds games or it doesn't want the fight.
"Let's see what the big boss is going to do. My opinion is that he (Sonnen) had his chance and tapped, he should go back to the end of the line. The same thing is true with Vitor Belfort. They're great fighters, but they had their chance," Soares said. "Sonnen would make a big fight, as would Dan Henderson and Georges St-Pierre, but we should recognize that Anderson only has around four fights left in his career."
Soares says it isn't personal with Sonnen, but the champ will determine his own schedule.
"Chael is not the person that's going to determine when [Silva] is going to take the fight. When he's going to take this fight is when his shoulder is completely healed up, and he's ready to start his training camp for the fight," Soares told MMAjunkie on fight night at UFC 136. "It's not because Chael says he wants to fight in February. Who is Chael to determine that? Chael needs to take a number and wait his turn. He got his opportunity, and he tapped. It's not the first time he's tapped, and I guarantee you it won't be the last."
Dana White confirmed that Silva's shoulder bursitis has to take care of before he can book the fight for Super Bowl Saturday weekend in Las Vegas.
