TV gold: ?Angry? Sonnen walks off Canadian talk show

Sometimes it's hard to tell if Chael Sonnen is serious when he goes off certain media members. Often times it's part of the bit.

On Wednesday, during an interview on Canada's "Off the Record," Sonnen's act seemed pretty real. Towards the end of a contentious interview, Sonnen took off his microphone and bailed on the conversation.

OTR host Michael Landsberg began the discussion by asking Sonnen why he backed down from his challenge of "leaving the UFC" if lost to Anderson Silva in their eventual fight in 2012.

"You might want to take the base out of your tone, I'm not sure you know who you're talking to here, but I've never backed down from anything, so check your facts," stated Sonnen.

Landsberg asked again.

"What are you talking about?," asked Sonnen. "What is this, your first day on the job? You're mixing five different stories here. This is like doing amateur hour or something. What show am I on here? Is this for public radio?"

Sonnen said he couldn't back away from an offer, since the offer was never accepted by Silva. That's when his sharp tongue began slice away at Canada.

"That's not how offers work. Is that how you do business in Canada? Cause in my country, that created business, offers expire," Sonnen said. "I made him an offer, apparently it didn't work, he didn't accept it. It's not that I backed down, but apparently I need to present him with a new offer. You guys probably don't do that in socialism, but in America, in a capitalistic society, that's how things work."

Five minutes into the second take, Landsberg and Sonnen were still verbally sparring and the fighter decided to leave.

So who really snapped - Sonnen or Landsberg?

UFC 139 postfight video: Normally ?chill? Faber gets worked up over one cat

Urijah Faber admires legendary fighters like Randy Couture, Dan Henderson and Wanderlei Silva. They're all laid back guys outside the cage who turn into animals once the bell sounds.

Faber, a California native and child of "hippie" parents, wants to carry himself the same way, but there's one guy who gets his blood boiling outside the Octagon. It's UFC 135-pound champ Dominick Cruz.

Even after his huge win over Brian Bowles on Saturday night, Faber went right back after Cruz. He lost to Cruz at UFC 132, but still doesn't believe the champ is the best in the weight class.

UFC 139 primer: Silva fighting to fend off retirement, doesn?t want to let down his fans

UFC 139 primer: Silva fighting to fend off retirement, doesn?t want to let down his fans

This wasn't the time Wanderlei Silva wanted to go out. He's on a card with 41-year-old in the main event and facing a 39-year-old, yet "The Axe Murderer" is the guy trying to hold off retirement talk.

Silva, a loser of 6-of-8, faces Cung Le in the co-main event of UFC 139 tomorrow in San Jose, Ca. Another loss and it'll force UFC president Dana White to tell the former PRIDE star that's it. His June 27-second loss to Chris Leben at UFC 132 has Silva all fired up to quiet the critics.

"My motivation is back," Silva, 35, told MMAjunkie.com. "I need to make my fans happy again. I have a lot of fans around the world. I know Saturday a lot of guys are going to have barbecue in their homes, and I know my responsibility to the millions and millions and millions of people that are going to watch that fight. I want to make my fans happy."

Silva (34-11-1, 3-6 UFC) doesn't believe folks when they talk about his chin being weak after 46 professional fights.

"In the first three minutes, everybody has power. The gloves are very small. One punch can finish you. But we tried to train so that this won't happen anymore," Silva said. "I trained more my defense," he said. "My attack is really good, but I trained more my defense. My coach told me what I need to do, and I tried."

Le presents a unique challenge. He's made a successful transition from the world of kickboxing. The Vietnamese fighter does a brilliant job of controlling distance with his kicks. Silva has to find a way to get inside or he'll get picked apart. Le is a minus-150 favorite.

Nick Diaz was a no-show at the UFC 137 press conference in Las Vegas - just like he was a no-show at the press conference in Toronto the day before. In this interview with MMA:30's Dave Farra; Dana White talks about the trust lost, why he thinks he'll never heard from Diaz again, and touches on Overreem vs. Lesnar and the UFC's return to Japan. Urijah Faber had one lucky locker room at UFC 139

If luck is a lady, she was holding Muay Thai pads in Urijah Faber's locker room at UFC 139 in San Jose on Saturday night. He tweeted a picture showing that every fighter in his locker room at the Shark Tank came out a big winner.

Urijah Faber had one lucky locker room at UFC 139

From left: Wanderlei Silva had a second-round TKO, Urijah Faber won with a second-round submission, Danny Castillo got a first-round TKO and Martin Kampmann took a split decision. Silva and Faber's nights improved as they both walked away with $70,000 bonus checks. Silva (along with his opponent Cung Le, and main eventers Dan Henderson and Mauricio Rua) won Fight of the Night, while Faber won Submission of the Night.

Matchmaker, matchmaker: Pettis, Shields, Lauzon get next bouts

This week has seen the UFC come up with several upcoming bouts as the Rio, Super Bowl weekend and Japan fight cards start to fill up.

UFC 142 in Brazil: Siyar Bahadurzada revealed via Twitter that he will take on Erick Silva. Silva destroyed Luis Ramos in just 0:40 at UFC 134. Bahadurzada will be making his UFC debut after putting together a record of 20-4 in Europe, Japan and Brazil. Mike Massenzio and Rousimar Palhares have also been added to this card.

UFC 143 in Las Vegas: Featherweights Erik Koch and Dustin Poirier will fight on Super Bowl Weekend. Poirier asked for the bout which will pit two rising stars against each other.

UFC 144 in Japan: Anthony Pettis and Joe Lauzon will meet on Feb. 26. Both lightweights are coming off wins, with Pettis taking out Jeremy Stephens and Lauzon submitting Melvin Guillard.

Jake Shields will try to put his tough 2011 behind him with a bout against Yoshihiro Akiyama. Shields lost to Jake Ellenberger in September just weeks after losing his father. This will be Akiyama's first fight at welterweight.

In his first fight since losing in a title fight to Anderson Silva, Yushin Okami will meet Tim Boetsch in Okami's native Japan.

Who will win these fights? Tell us in the comments or on Facebook.

Wanderlei Silva returns to win column over Cung Le at UFC 139

Wanderlei Silva returns to win column over Cung Le at UFC 139

Wanderlei Silva survived big kicks from Cung Le to get a second-round TKO win at UFC 139 in San Jose on Saturday.

In the first round, Silva became aggressive first, throwing a series of punches then moving back to create distance again. Le stuck with his trademark kicks, wobbling Silva with a kick and then a spinning backfist. He threw plenty of 360 kicks, but Silva still came in when he could and opened a cut on Le's face. He followed up with some kicks of his own, wobbling Le.

This same back and forth continued in the second round. Le threw every kind of kick that can be imagined, including an axe kick and a wheel kick. Silva took over in the final minute, wobbling Silva with a head kick and a right hand. Then Silva grabbed Le in a headlock, and landed several knees to Le's face. He then followed Le to the ground, and finished with ground and pound at 4:49 in the second round.

UFC commentator Joe Rogan disagreed with the stoppage, saying that Le was hurt but going for a takedown when on the ground. Le's face showed plenty of damage after the bout, as his nose was disfigured and his face was bloody and swollen.

Silva was emotional in the win. He said this past year was tough, but he had to return to hard work with his team to get back to his vintage form.

This was a landmark fight for both men. Silva, who has a long career that spans Pride and the UFC, appeared to be on the edge of retirement after a punishing loss to Chris Leben. For Le, it was his first bout in the UFC after being a pioneer fighter for Strikeforce.

Now, Silva appears rejuvenated. Le was impressive for much of the fight, but clearly has work to do.

Drop what you?re doing, and watch this Marius Zaromskis KO

Strikeforce and Dream vet Marius Zaromskis fought Bruno Carvalho in Sweden this weekend, and the ending of the fight will make your jaw drop.

Yep, that's a forward roll into an axe kick. Though Carvalho is dropped by the incredible kick, he does survive to return to his feet, only for Zaromskis to end the bout with sharp elbows and then ground and pound.

Miguel Torres once tried a similar move when in the WEC, but didn't connect. This kick can be put alongside the Anthony Pettis "Showtime Kick," and Anderson Silva and Lyoto Machida's front kicks.

UFC on Fox?s Three Stars: dos Santos, Henderson and Johnson

UFC on Fox?s Three Stars: dos Santos, Henderson and JohnsonThe UFC's first fight on network television delivered on ratings and gave the UFC a new heavyweight champion. Who stood out on the historic night?

No. 1 star -- Junior dos Santos: "Cigano" was given the opportunity to become a star and a champion, and he took advantage of it by knocking out Cain Velasquez in just 64 seconds. His emotional celebration is the kind of thing even first-time viewers will remember, making him well-known beyond the millions who tuned in from his home country of Brazil. Now, dos Santos can sit back and enjoy his shiny gold bet until UFC 141, when Brock Lesnar and Alistair Overeem will battle for the right to fight him.

No. 2 star -- Benson Henderson: Instead of grumbling about being relegated to Facebook fights after headlining a Versus card, Henderson put on a show against the very tough Clay Guida. He earned a Fight of the Night bonus, but more importantly, a shot at the UFC lightweight belt. He will fight Frankie Edgar at the event in Japan in February.

No. 3 star -- DaMarques Johnson: After losing to Amir Sadollah in March, Johnson was in need of a big win. That came in the form of a knockout of fellow "The Ultimate Fighter" alumnus Clay Harvison in just 1:34.

Who were your Three Stars from UFC on Fox? Tell us in the comments or on Facebook.

Michael Chandler pulls upset win over Eddie Alvarez at Bellator

Michael Chandler pulls upset win over Eddie Alvarez at BellatorWhile UFC 139 was on a break in San Jose, Bellator put on a fight of the year candidate that ended with a new lightweight champ. Michael Chandler submitted Eddie Alvarez in the fourth round to take Bellator's lightweight belt.

Chandler started swinging from the first second of the fight, wobbling Alvarez against the fence in the first 30 seconds. Though Alvarez survived, Chandler took the first two rounds by landing combination after combination. The back-and-forth of the fight didn't slow in the first two rounds, but it was Chandler who had the clear advantage.

Alvarez, who is widely considered a top-three lightweight, recovered in the third round. He pinned Chandler against the fence with unanswered punches several times.

In the fourth round, Chandler took over. He knocked Alvarez to the ground, followed up with ground and pound, moved to full mount, then took Alvarez's back in a rear-naked choke. Alvarez tapped at 3:06 in the fourth.

Alvarez had been the only lightweight champion in Bellator history. His last loss was in a heel hook to Shinya Aoki in 2008, and had rattled off seven wins since that loss. Chandler, who wrestled at the University of Missouri, is relatively inexperienced. He is 9-0 to Alvarez's 22-3.

But now, Chandler has proved that he is a force to be reckoned with, and Bellator gave MMA fans a fight to remember.

Weidman, Tibau preliminary card winners at UFC 139

Weidman, Tibau preliminary card winners at UFC 139

Chris Weidman and Gleison Tibau rounded out the Facebook fights at UFC 139 in San Jose on Saturday with wins.

Weidman chokes his way to a win

Chris Weidman needed just 2:07 to get a technical submission win over Tom Lawlor.

Weidman relied on his wrestling early, getting a takedown in the first minute of the fight. He maneuvered into a D'arce. Lawlor didn't tap when he was in trouble, so the fight was stopped when Lawlor was unconscious.

Weidman, an All-American wrestler at Hofstra, continued his undefeated streak with the win. Lawlor fell to 7-4.

Tibau takes battle of grapplers

Gleison Tibau continued his undefeated streak in 2011 with a decision win over Rafael dos Anjos.

The first round gave dos Anjos a marked advantage on the ground, but Tibau had better striking in a tightly contested round. The majority of the second round was stand-up, despite the strong grappling backgrounds of both fighters. Again, the round was tight, as each fighter answered the other's punching combos. Late in the round, Tinau took the lead with a left-right combo, and then an unending bevy of unanswered shots. Somehow, dos Anjos stayed on his feet despite being very wobbly from Tibau's big punches.

Tibau notched a takedown in the third round and controlled dos Anjos for most of the round. That takedown represented the majority of any offense in the round. Dos Anjos returned to his feet and swung wildly in the last remaining minute, but it was too late.

The judges saw the fight 29-28, 28-29, 30-27 for Tibau. This win was his third in a row and puts his record to 25-7. Dos Anjos fell to 15-6.

We're moving ever closer to the finale of the last season of "The Ultimate Fighter" to air on Spike before it moves to the Fox family of networks. Hopefully, that doesn't mean the last of the coaches challenges, which happens tonight. Huzzah! Read on for spoilers and recaps.

The show started out on a sweet note. Dustin Pague passed the same homeless man on the street during the drive from the house to the training center every day, so he decided to put together a bag of food, drinks and an encouraging note and handed it off to the man. The van barely slowed down long enough for him to do it, but kudos to Pague for thinking outside his own world of training.

Jason "Mayhem" Miller stopped by the house for a BBQ, and is somehow devolved into a competition of bug-eating. I don't even ... I can't even ... Why? Pague ate a bunch of bugs, so he won, I guess?

Oh, but there's a real competition this week! COACHES CHALLENGE! Nothing perks up a season of TUF like the coaches' challenge. Remember Brock Lesnar losing at football? Jens Pulver becoming a pro ping pong player? Forest Griffin dominating Quinton Jackson in basketball? Exactly.

This time around, it's air hockey. As usual, the winning coach gets $10,000 and each of his team members gets $1,000. Both Miller and Bisping say that they haven't played in years, and it's obvious by their poor technique.

Bisping scores first, second and through six until Miller finally scores. Miller is terrible, and Bisping easily took the first two games. To the surprise of no one, Bisping started talking crap, and Mayhem took the third one. The last game was tight, but Bisping took it. He jumped on the table to celebrate, but then fell off the table.

The semifinal fights continue tonight, with the winner headed to the finale. Dillashaw has an obvious wrestling advantage, while Pague is much more comfortable standing up. This isn't a big trash talk-filled bout. Dillashaw is the last bantamweight to be standing for Team Bisping, which he says proves how much better he is than his opponents.

Semifinal bout: Dustin Pague vs. T.J. Dillashaw in three-round bout

Round 1: Dillashaw landed solid strikes and then got his first takedown in the first minute. He couldn't pass guard, but he did a good job of holding off Pague's submission attempts. Dillashaw landed several big elbows and completely controlled him on the ground until the final 30 seconds. Pague pushed him off, landed a big knee, but didn't have time to get a rhythm going from his feet.

Round 2: Again, Dillashaw started with an easy takedown, but was much closer to the cage. He had to move to side control and spin Pague around slowly to get him away from the fence. For the rest of the round, Dillashaw kept Pague on his back. It wasn't exciting, but it was effective.

Between rounds, both corners realized that Pague had to get a knockout or a submission for a win, because the judges cards would be on Dillashaw's side.

Round 3: Dillashaw had a harder time getting the takedown this time, but guess what? He still did it. He also landed some nasty strikes that opened a cut on Pague's face. Aside from the blood, the second round looked exactly like the third.

Dillashaw took the decision and moved on to the finals with a score of 30-26, 30-27, 30-26. He very kindly consoled Pague after the loss.

UFC 139 openers: Irked Castillo rolls over Bailey for first round TKO, Torres and Baczynski win too

UFC 139 openers: Irked Castillo rolls over Bailey for first round TKO, Torres and Baczynski win too

SAN JOSE - Apparently Danny Castillo felt disrespected when Shamar Bailey missed weight yesterday. After pounding on Bailey to produce a first TKO victory, Castillo had little to say except that his opponent bothered him with his weight issues.

"You're supposed to be a professional and come in three pounds overweight, and then tell me you can't lose anymore weight?" Castillo told UFC analyst Joe Rogan.

Bailey came in yesterday at 158 pounds and passed on trying to lose two pounds in the next hour. In the end, the extra weight made no difference as Castillo threw him around like a rag doll in fight No. 1 of UFC 139 at the HP Pavilion.

The northern California-native scored his first takedown just 15 seconds into the fight. Castillo (12-4, 2-1 UFC) landed a nasty body kick and fell to his rear end from the impact. Bailey charged forward to score his own takedown and got double-legged down to the mat. He got up quickly, but Castillo picked him up off the ground and slammed him down twice in the next 45 seconds. After the third takedown, Bailey never got back to his feet.

Castillo worked from half guard to smother and grind on Bailey. It wore out the Season 13 "Ultimate Fighter" alum. In the final 90 seconds of the round, Castillo began to sit up on a knee and punch away to the body and head. Bailey got tired of defending himself with 15 seconds left in the round as Castillo threw 11 unanswered shots. Bailey rolled to his side and covered up. Most of the shots were hitting Bailey on the arm, but it was clear he didn't want to continue at the 4:52 mark of the first.

"I feel great. It feels good when you fight to your potential. It's exciting for me and important for the advancement of my career. I think the lightweight division is the strongest in the UFC and it's good to get a win. It's what I wanted to do and I'm glad I went out there and did it," said Castillo.

Bailey, who is now 1-2 in the UFC, admitted he blew it this weekend.

"I'm very disappointed in myself, definitely underperformed. I've never come in overweight, so it was definitely a bad start with that. Then Danny went out and fought a good fight. I wish the ref hadn't stopped the fight but what are you going to do. I need to do what I do, but way better," said Bailey (12-5).

Torres workman-like in getting back on winning track

Miguel Torres isn't the same fighter he was in the WEC, but that doesn't mean he's doing anything wrong.

Now that the weight class is quickly filling up with dangerous opponents, the former bantamweight king is simply using a more measured approach. Torres worked the clinch effectively and wore down Nick Pace to pick up his first win since February via unanimous decision, 30-27 on all three scorecards.

"I'm a little disappointed with my performance, I wanted to knock him out or submit him. I knew he was looking for a good shot. I could tell by the way he was standing. I didn't want to rush it, so I was trying to be smart," Torres (39-4, 2-1 UFC) said. "I've been working on my wrestling a lot. So I was trying a couple takedowns and get up and put the pressure on him. I felt him in the clench and he was kind of weak, so I was able to finish it."

Baczynski pulls the upset in rather easy fashion over Brown

Matt Brown's been around the block a time or two, but the veteran does tend to have lapses in concentration. It happened tonight and Seth Baczysnki was the beneficiary.

Baczysnki, a cast member on Season 11 of "The Ultimate Fighter," slapped on a tight guillotine choke early in the second. Brown tried to free himself, but after 24 seconds he couldn't hold out any longer and tapped at 0:42.

"I'm just really pleased to get out of there with the finish. It's my 15th professional win andI'm happy to close the win out against a tough opponent," Baczynski said. "I'm going to get to enjoy Thanksgiving with my family this year and be thankful for my success."

Brown (12-11, 5-5 UFC) didn't look right from the start. He was tentative in the striking game and often pushed around in the clinch in the opening five minutes.

Baczynski (15-6, 2-1 UFC) came out looking to throw in the second. He missed with a big shot that Brown ducked under. Brown pushed forward to score takedown, but left his head exposed. It was a pretty easy submission attempt for Baczysnki.

Brown was a minus-135 betting favorite.
